Shireen Meher

Shireen Meher is a Professor of Maternal Fetal Medicine with the University of Sydney. She is based at the Nepean Clinical School and Nepean Blue Mountains LHD where she leads the obstetric research program and is co-lead for specialty training. She is in the leadership team for the Sydney Health Partners’ Reproductive Maternal and Newborn Health Clinical Academic Group and the University of Sydney's Reproduction and Perinatal Centre. Professor Meher completed her undergraduate medical education in India and clinical training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in the UK, with subspecialist accreditation in Maternal Fetal Medicine at Imperial College, London. Prior to her current appointment, she was working in the UK as a clinical academic in the NHS at Birmingham Women’s and Children's NHS Foundation Trust where she led the multiple pregnancy service and conducted fetal interventional therapy procedures. Professor Meher’s research interests include pre-eclampsia, postpartum haemorrhage, multiple pregnancy, and research methodology including randomised trials, systematic reviews, and standardisation of research outcomes. She has secured over A$ 4.1 million in competitive grant funding as Chief Investigator, and an additional A$ 19 million through collaboration on funded projects with others. She has contributed internationally as Editor for the Cochrane Pregnancy and Childbirth Group and through her work with the World Health Organization on various maternal health projects and guidelines.
